A partner shows up when it matters most

Eastern DRC is at war. Fighting has reached the communities surrounding Lwiro Primates Rehabilitation Center, where our team cares every day for 227 rescued chimpanzees and monkeys. Food prices have skyrocketed. Supply chains have become unreliable and dangerous. And yet the animals still need to eat — three times a day, every day.

That is why we are so grateful for the International Primate Protection League (IPPL), which has awarded Lwiro Primates an emergency grant to cover four weeks of food for all 227 primates in our care. This grant will fund nearly 20,000 individual meals — fresh fruits, vegetables, and grains purchased from local women farmers who are navigating this crisis alongside us.

IPPL has long been a champion of primate protection worldwide. Their willingness to respond quickly to an emergency halfway around the world reflects exactly the kind of partnership that makes it possible for sanctuaries like ours to keep operating in the most difficult circumstances. We are grateful, and we are honored to count them among our allies.

For over 20 years, LPRC has provided sanctuary to primates rescued from poachers and wildlife traffickers. The war has made that work harder and more expensive but our team has not wavered. Every day, our 53 local staff members show up, feed the animals, monitor their health, and hold the line. Grants like this one from IPPL make that possible.
