Lwiro Primates Responds to Ebola Outbreak with Strict Biosecurity Protocols

The 2026 Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has reached the region surrounding the Lwiro Primates Rehabilitation Center, and our team is responding with urgency and care.

LPRC has implemented strict biosecurity measures to protect our staff and the 130 chimpanzees and 97 monkeys in our care. A select group of caregivers and veterinary staff are quarantined in the sanctuary to reduce outside exposures as much as possible. Staff are following rigorous sanitation practices, including disinfecting all food and bedding materials before they are distributed.
